Our Un-searched Paydirt comes from the Eastern Ontario Goldbelt where the Precambrian Shield Gold Rush took place in 1867. (See map below)
We search the shores and riverbeds and the crevices and cracks in the volcanic bedrock rich in quartzite. We then add a good amount of gold flakes, pickers and fines to give you a true Gold panning experience.
More about the Eastern Ontario Gold Belt
"Gold was first discovered in Eastern Ontario at the community of Eldorado which is about 6 miles north of Madoc on Hwy 62. The discovery precipitated a gold rush that drew thousands into the area. Not everyone dug holes at Eldorado; some drifted west, and found gold at Malone
(5 miles west), and from there worked their way south to the Deloro area. Others headed north past Bannocburn, east toward Kaladar, eventually covering approximately 1,200 square miles of Eastern Ontario.
In August of 1866, the prospectors on the ridge at Eldorado were digging into one of the gossan-stained (iron oxide) fissure vents when, at a depth of about six feet, the floor of their pit collapsed, and sent them tumbling into small cave created eons before by acidic solutions which had secretly dissolved the softer rock and washed it away.
The solution cavity was about the size of a small room, and parts of the walls and ceiling were subsequently found to be embedded with leaves, crystals and nuggets of pure gold. The floor was covered with several feet of soft rusty black soil, and as this was being removed from the hole, someone noticed that it, too, contained flakes and grains of pure gold.
Though the Richardson was a spectacularly rich discovery, the deposit quickly proved to be an isolated pocket, and failed to justify further development. Deposits of this nature are highly unpredictable owing to the absence of an extensive vein structure. Without such dominant
vein structures, mining engineers have no way to guide the development of a mine, making it a hit and miss operation capable of swallowing up large sums of money without any reasonable assurance of success...."
